Alright then, here it is, Sour Baby Leak #2 once again produced by Micah Aza for Hardwork Productions. This has been the coldest and dreariest summer I have spent in San Francisco over the four years I have been here. Cold, dreary, and for those like me, infinitely inspirational. I wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered, and created a cover and video for this leak in under 3 hours. I am working on cutting fat and making this blog primarily about me, Gus Cutty the musician. In doing so I have both erased a lot of content and realized that a lot was missed in the madness of life, and so here is a little catch up of things I have released over the past month.

Our good friend Sage Millard passed away last year of what turned out to be the swine flu. He was a great person and we all miss him. If you have ever seen the Fist Fam or Gus Cutty t-shirts then you have seen is screen printing work. The day I heard the news I wrote and recorded this short video.

I had recently gone through some major changes in my life which were resulting in a much more focused eye on music, and so recorded 4 songs in a week. This is one of them for free download which is a long-ass verse over a beat I jacked from Count Bass D. Click here to download “Get Busy”.

Here is a song I wrote and recorded over a Freeway and Jake One beat all about waking up in the middle of the night to troops in the streets rounding up the citizens to transport us to slave camps.

All Mine

Alright, I finally finished writing my new song “All Mine” produced by Al Lover . It’s a classic tale really. One night while drinking at the bowling alley I meet a girl, we hook up and too quickly rush into a relationship, common issues arise, she becomes dependant and jealous, and so I begin to lie telling her I’m working when I’m actually hanging out with my friends, such as one night when while bowling I run into her making out with another man. Queue hook. At the bar, drowning my sorrows, confidence guttered, on gurp, I am seduced by a sketchy bar dweller, while hooking up, blacked out, I suffer what is commonly referred to as “whiskey dick”, bruising her ego and enraging her to the point of slandering my name about town, meanwhile I’m back at the bar drinking with my friends, determined not to repeat said incident I responsibly head home, and after climbing into my car, discover said psycho in my back seat. Queue final hook. Though a complete work of fiction, I’m sure many of us can relate to the themes involved. Al really destroyed this beat sampled off of the last track “Alone” on Ty Segall’s newest record Melted. Free download and complete lyrics coming soon.

Exhibit TK

In an extremely predictable move, I too sat down last night, after purchasing (yes people still buy music some times) the instrumental to Jay Electronica’s Exhibit C, and wrote an attempt to do justice to an unbelievable Just Blaze beat which had already been destroyed to the point of, “stop, don’t even try it!” status. I awoke this morning, and but of course, my favorite rapper of the moment, Joell Ortiz, had recorded and flooded the blogosphere with his take. Honestly, I would have been dissapointed if he hadn’t. But as I told Conceit, the beat is begging for an emotional response which I feel Jay didn’t play up to. Anyway, mine will prevail, and though Im sure no blog will lower it’s nose to it, I will continue to press my folks to give it an honest listen. I’m recording next week, but until then, soak up the lyrics…

miss my Dad everyday since he passed. Getting mad for no reason. Now I’m drinkin.

not easy not at all, though I’m dealing feeling lost like this shit’ll kill us off.
Still I feel in awe of how the cancer ate my Dad so fast.
(I) gotta hold it all together like tobacco wraps. I try to laugh
actin like an asshole. Cats don’t
understand why I’m gettin mad so fast. I had a bad dose of bullshit,
and though I’m cool, this got me seeing red like tobasco caps.

It’s like I’m
falling off and often all of this will cause a kid to call it quits, but I aint really like that.
This little apocalypse has got me missing pops, but this is not the consequence. No, I’m never getting sidetracked.
Living with the high hats.
Timmy would have liked that.
I promise this. The opposite of quitting. This is common sense I’m living for the missing.
And this isn’t the final product. This is just another line in God’s composition.

My dad passed away this summer. I loved him very much and I’m sure it will be a long time before I feel confident talking about him and our life together but for now here’s an introduction to the man who’s blood still runs in my veins. I miss you dad.

Oh you support independent artists?

My two pennies go a little something like this. Whether you agree with the idea that our government is heading in the direction of a more socialized system or not, you must ask yourself a very important question. For many Americans, the majority I would gather from record sales, this point has little weight. But the fact remains that I know and have spoken to many intelligent citizens who are fans of and or friends with independent musicians and artists and yet stand against healthcare reform for several reasons. Which brings me to my point. In this country there are very few examples of independent artists with health insurance. This is a plain and simple fact. They simply cannot afford it, and as every year passes the opportunity shrinks. These companies are paying their CEOs billions of dollars for cutting corners with no regard toward humanity to ensure growth in their businesses. Meanwhile, the people who create most of the things that make life worth living for many of us are falling ill and dying of major diseases, leaving years of debt behind to their loved ones. Think about it. With fans like these, who needs enemies?
